Ha-llou, how are you?

Ha-llo all non Norwegian speakers! I promised you some English posts on our blog and here is the first one.

Despite the hundred something angry mosquito bites on my legs, (but none above the waist, which is strange) I am pretty happy today. We're back at the hostel after another long day searching for an apartment. As we by now have learned, patience is virtue in China, but it pays off in the end. We just got a top floor apartment in a nice area. Panorama view. Cheap. And I bought an iPhone. Everything almost ready and figured out, we are going to spend this week exploring the city and having fun. Summer school starts the 11th of July and we are talking 6 hours of class and 8 hours of homework every day, monday to saturday. Bye bye beer.

This is what Beijing is like:
- hot
- humid
- cheap
- packed with chinese people
- packed with cars
- full of mosquito bedbugs

Chinese people are very cute, but also very rude. They openly stare at foreigners, and by staring I mean eyes fixed on us while passing us on the street. Some people even turn around and continue glaring 10 meters away. It's like we're famous. Sometimes they say "Ha-llou" and “Nice to meet you” and give us the biggest teethless smile. Then they make a harsh crazy sound from the throat and up comes a big load of spit. Right on the ground. Or on the subway track. Or out the taxi window. Today, when we were sitting at a street food stand enjoying a bowl of really spicy noodles, a guy came up to our table, rolled up his shirt to right above his nipples. And then he just stood there giggling for like 2 minutes. He had rotten front teeth. Hurray.

Children are the cutest. They wear pants with a hole in the back and then they just sit down and pee everywhere, parking lots being the most popular space. Chinese people always squat. If you don't know what squatting is then google it. I'll put pictures later. It's super tiring and we don't understand how thay can sit like that for hours. Public toilets are squatting holes. It's a funny affair.

All in all, Beijing is great and we are learning so much already. Being around Chinese people and listening to this lovely language all the time is inspiring. I want to learn this! They actually understand us when we try to speak, and we understand about 40 % when they speak in less than machine gun speed. We love China!
